Part # Description Notes
39 TEMPERATURE (pressure optional) RECORDER - 4 MB memory, RS-232 interface, lithium battery (non-hazardous), upload cable for internal I/O (801413), SEASOFT software, & complete documentation (data I/O cable may be deleted for credit). Quantity orders will be packed several instruments to a box & each box will contain one manual & one software CD-ROM. Single packing, with a manual & CD-ROM in each box, will be provided on request. Specify: housing & thermistor configuration selections. For photos of standard shipment, click here.

SBE 39 Housing Selections (option numbers out of order for consistency with previous price list) -- MUST SELECT ONE

39-1g 600 m plastic housing SBE 39 is available with 600 or 10,500 m housing, each of which has 3 I/O connector options:
  • 39-1g & -1c have internal connector; instrument setup & data upload require opening housing by unscrewing end cap. 801413 cable is included with these options.
  • 39-1h & -1d have standard (Impulse XSG) external connector, allowing instrument setup & data upload without opening housing. Cable is not included with these options; order cable separately (see SBE 39 Accessories below).
  • 39-1i & -1f have wet-pluggable (MCBH) external connector, allowing instrument setup & data upload without opening housing. Cable is not included with these options; order cable separately (see SBE 39 Accessories below).
    Wet-pluggable connectors may be mated in wet conditions. Their pins do not need to be dried before mating. By design, water on connector pins is forced out as connector is mated. However, they must not be mated or un-mated while submerged. Wet-pluggable connectors have a non-conducting guide pin to assist pin alignment & require less force to mate, making them easier to mate reliably under dark or cold conditions, compared to our standard (Impulse XSG/RMG) connectors. Like standard connectors, wet-pluggables need proper lubrication & require care during use to avoid trapping water in sockets.
39-1h 600 m plastic housing with standard external I/O connector (order external I/O cable separately)
39-1i 600 m plastic housing with Wet-pluggable external I/O connector (order external I/O cable separately)
39-1c 10,500 m titanium housing
39-1d 10,500 m titanium housing with external I/O connector (order external I/O cable separately)
39-1f 10,500 m titanium housing with Wet-pluggable external I/O connector (order external I/O cable separately)
SBE 39 Thermistor Configuration Selections -- MUST SELECT ONE
39-2a Internal thermistor, imbedded in titanium end cap Internal thermistor provides more rugged sensor, but slower response (time constant approximately 25 seconds). External thermistor provides faster response (approximately 0.5 seconds) for when fast sampling required.
39-2b External thermistor, in pressure protected sheath
SBE 39 Pressure Sensor Range (Depth) Options
39-3a 20 m strain gauge pressure sensor Pressure sensor is installed in end cap, & is not field replaceable / swappable. While highest pressure rating gives you most flexibility in using 39, it is at expense of accuracy & resolution. It is advantageous to use lowest range pressure sensor compatible with your intended maximum operating depth, because accuracy & resolution are proportional to pressure sensor's full scale range. For example, comparing 2000 & 7000 m sensors --
  • 2000 m sensor:
    initial accuracy = 2 m (= 0.1% * 2000 m),
    resolution = 0.04 m (= 0.002% * 2000 m)
  • 7000 m sensor:
    initial accuracy = 7 m (= 0.1% * 7000 m),
    resolution = 0.14 m (= 0.002% * 7000 m)
39-3b 100 m strain gauge pressure sensor
39-3c 350 m strain gauge pressure sensor
39-3h 600 m strain gauge pressure sensor
39-3d 1000 m strain gauge pressure sensor
39-3e 2000 m strain gauge pressure sensor
39-3f 3500 m strain gauge pressure sensor
39-3g 7000 m strain gauge pressure sensor
SBE 39 Mooring Clamp Options (2 clamps should be used if mooring subjected to high dynamic motion, or when using Net Fender Option. Specify mount clamp wire size to match O.D. of wire jacket)
39-4a 1 plastic mounting clamp for 1/4 in. diameter mooring wire See document 67162 and drawing 41396 for mechanical details.

SBE 39 shown with option 39-1c (10,500 m titanium housing, internal I/O connector) & 39-2b (External thermistor, in pressure protected sheath), as well as 1 mounting clamp.

39-4b 1 plastic mounting clamp for 5/16 in. diameter mooring wire
39-4c 1 plastic mounting clamp for 3/8 in. diameter mooring wire
39-4d 1 plastic mounting clamp for 1/2 in. diameter mooring wire
39-4e 1 plastic mounting clamp for 6 mm diameter mooring wire

39-5a Net Fender for 1/4 in. diameter mooring wire

SBE 39-IM shown;
SBE 39 net fender detail similar

Conical ends of net fender are designed to shed fishing lines or nets.

Net fender retains half the mooring clamps. All hardware is captured within, guaranteeing no loss of nuts or bolts during deployment. Attach SBE 39 to mooring cable in 2 steps:

  1. Place net fender & attached clamps against mooring line. Push SBE 39 into clamp guides.
  2. Holding SBE 39 & net fender with 1 hand, tighten clamp bolts with a driver in free hand.
39-5b Net Fender for 5/16 in. diameter mooring wire
39-5c Net Fender for 3/8 in. diameter mooring wire
39-5d Net Fender for 1/2 in. diameter mooring wire
39-5e Net Fender for 6 mm diameter mooring wire
39-5f Net Fender for 8 mm diameter mooring wire
39-5g Net Fender for 10 mm diameter mooring wire
39-5h Net Fender for 12 mm diameter mooring wire
