Recall Notice --
Opto-Isolated Junction Boxes (with or without NMEA 0183 Interface)
August 1997
A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION MAY EXIST IN SEVERAL VERSIONS OF OPTO-ISOLATED JUNCTION BOXES HAVING EXTERNAL FUSE HOLDERS.
(If you are not the user of this equipment, PLEASE communicate this information to the appropriate person or department.)
Equipment affected: All versions of opto-isolated type junction boxes (similar to above) WITH EXTERNAL FUSE HOLDERS.
If your opto box does not have an external fuse holder, DISREGARD THIS NOTICE.
Description: The panel mounted fuse holder on these units is likely to be wired with the "hot" wire connected to the front terminal (on the inside of the box). This condition presents a risk of electric shock if the fuse is removed from the fuse holder while the junction box is connected to an AC power source and you contact the fuse area.
While it should be a commonly practiced
safety measure, we reiterate:
NEVER WORK ON ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT THAT IS PLUGGED IN TO A POWER SOURCE.
Immediate Action: Contact Sea-Bird to request a warning label to be applied.
And... always unplug junction box before changing the fuse!!!
As soon as practical: Send your junction box to Sea-Bird for modification to eliminate the shock hazard. Your junction box can be returned to Sea-Bird using our Federal Express account number. We will make the necessary modifications and return your box within a week of receipt. Contact our customer service department for account number and instructions on returning your junction box. Two-way transportation and repair costs will be covered by Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc.
